The City Attorney is appointed by the City Manager and serves as the City's chief legal advisor. The City Attorney provides legal counsel to the City Manager, City Council, and City departments, helping ensure the City operates in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
The City Attorney's responsibilities include:
- Appearing in court to prosecute or defend legal matters involving the City when authorized by the City Council.
- Drafting ordinances, resolutions, leases, deeds, notices, contracts, forms, and other legal documents as requested by the City Council.
- Performing additional legal services as directed by the City Council, as provided under the City's contractual agreement.
- Providing legal advice to the City Manager and City Council on matters involving the authority and duties of City officials and employees.
- Representing the City's legal interests in judicial proceedings authorized by the City Council.
When conducting approved City business outside of Blanchard, the City Attorney may be reimbursed for actual and necessary travel expenses in accordance with City policy and authorization by the City Council.
